June
Senior Product Designer

During my 2.5 year tenure, I collaborated closely with fellow designers and staff in technical, product and program management roles, developing and refining software UX for June's flagship hardware product, the June Oven.

I managed designs for the device's custom onscreen UI and the associated mobile app. I also made refinements to the marketing website for the June Oven, did graphic design and illustrations, created presentation templates, consulted on industrial design, and built the Figma pattern libraries for many of June's core designs.

The June Oven

The June Oven is a beautifully refined piece of cooking technology.

Deceptively small, with a touchscreen and an internal camera, the June is an electric oven that replaces and expands on everything a conventional oven can do.

It has an internal camera to identify foods and guide their cooking. The app guides users through its recipes. This oven literally taught me to cook.

The June is versatile and easy to use - it has entirely displaced my household's gas oven, now used only for storage of pots & pans.

Built In Intelligence

An electric kitchen-in-a-box, the June uses a top-down camera and computer vision to recognize foods placed in the oven.

Advanced Machine Learning algorithms are used to determine number and placement of items, decide how those items will best be cooked, and predict doneness levels and finish times for the user.

Third Generation Hardware

There were three major hardware revs (and many software iterations) for the June Oven.

I worked on the UX for the third generation oven, refining the touchscreen display content and the mobile app, as well as the back end software used to create and refine the june's algorithmically-driven smart recipes.

Figma Libraries

I arranged, organized and refined the Figma libraries for the June Oven's onscreen display and companion mobile app, as well as for June branded content overall.

These libraries streamlined the design process - having organized sets of reusable components led to a 50% increase in the speed of design work.

Branding

Illustration

I created numerous illustrations for the oven, particularly for onscreen tips.

Branded June Presentation Templates

I designed June branded slide decks and presentation templates for Keynote and Powerpoint.

In Summary...

My work for June was varied and impactful.

I streamlined the design process, creating Figma libraries with reusable components. This led to a 50% increase in speed of design development.

I created new assets, organized those that already existed, and produced illustrations and graphic designs.

I codified visual branding for June Oven design communications, assembling visual templates and presentation decks.

Because of the acquisition by Weber, much of this work happened concurrently with Weber projects, which are detailed separately
